Photo or video: where should your next content budget go?
Most SMEs ask us this in their first call, and the honest answer is: it depends on what you're trying to do with the content, not which format is "better."
Photography wins for
- Product catalogues and e-commerce listings, where clarity matters more than motion.
- Corporate profiles, LinkedIn and team pages, where a clean headshot builds credibility fast.
- High-volume feed content — a single shoot can produce dozens of usable images.
Video wins for
- Reels and TikTok, where platforms actively push video reach over static posts.
- Explaining a service that's hard to picture from a photo alone.
- Building trust quickly — a 30-second clip of your space or team says more than a paragraph.
The real answer: both, in the same shoot
The most efficient use of a shoot day is capturing photo and video together. A videographer and photographer working the same session can walk away with a month of feed images, a handful of reels, and one longer brand clip — without paying for two separate shoot days.
How to decide your split
If your goal is awareness and reach, weight the budget toward short-form video. If your goal is conversion — someone deciding to buy after landing on your page — weight it toward clean, consistent product photography. Most of our Growth-tier clients run roughly 60% video, 40% photo once their feed already has a solid photo foundation.
